Gay Krant ready for multi-channel publishing with Roxen Editorial Appliance

Dutch newspaper group Best Publishing Group BV has recently moved its publication Gay Krant to Roxen’s editorial publishing system Roxen Editorial Appliance. The new solution provides Gay Krant with a modern, entirely web based editorial publishing system that supports the newspaper’s new editorial workflow and allows for efficient management of content from many external writers. The new system runs on an Apple Mac Mini server and is hosted at an external data center. No local installation, systems management or software configuration is required.

Gay Krant is a leading newspaper and news site (GK.NL) for the LGBT community in the Netherlands. The newspaper is published every three weeks and has a circulation of 30.000. For the team at Gay Krant, the shift to Roxen Editorial Appliance included a complete makeover of the newspaper’s editorial process.

"With the support of our new system, the entire editorial process becomes more efficient, transparent and easier to monitor. Subsequently, the throughput time for the editors is significantly reduced and tedious manual work is avoided. Furthermore, we now have the editorial tool needed to efficiently add new distribution channels such as apps for smartphones and tablets at a very limited cost", says Henk Krol, Editor in Chief at Gay Krant.

Roxen Editorial Appliance is a customized publishing tool for multi-channel publishing of news and other content tailored for small and mid-sized media companies - a lean version of Roxen’s powerful Editorial Portal that also contains a built-in OEM version of Adobe InDesign Server, a backup and recovery solution as well as remote management tools. Roxen Editorial Appliance offers a turnkey solution that runs on an Apple Mac Mini server located at the customer or at an external data center.

"In the future, we expect more media customers to choose cloud solutions for their editorial system. But today, the price tag as well as the perceived shift in technology makes many hesitant towards complex server-based or new cloud solutions. And with the number of channels for news and other editorial content constantly growing, it is becoming increasingly hard to obtain efficiency for the publishers. With Roxen’s newly released appliance-solution, smaller- and mid-sized media companies such as Gay Krant gain access to Roxen’s modern editorial publishing system for multichannel publishing without breaking the bank. Also, they take a major, important step towards the future and the cloud", says Per Östlund, CEO of Roxen.
